http://www.beyondsnow.com/blog.php?id=189

Last week was the chance for Belgian riders to step it up and take the title of Belgian champion. Les 2 Alpes was once again the host of the championships and it welcomed the Belgian riders with bad weather and windy circumstances. But even with bad visibility or windy conditions our Beyondsnow teamriders preformed decent. This is how Evelien Derde spent her week. After a recent injury she had not recovered 100% and therefore had trouble on the big air. Because of that she had to keep her tricks basic and had trouble landing. She was very disappointed because she did not had the chance to show what she wanted. The slopestyle contest went better with good jumps on the big kicker line and a front 3 and front 5 on the medium kickers. She was super happy but because of a lower score on the rails she saw the gold pas her by, but was rewarded with a silver medal. The last part of the championships was the halfpipe. The qualifiers went perfectly and she placed first to go through to the finals. Her final run also went super smooth and she took the title of Belgian halfpipe champion. Her halfpipe run left quite an impression on the judges and she was also rewarded the overall Belgian champion in the women category. But Evelien was not the only one who did good. In the juniors category Bjorn Simons showed his skills and became third in the big air and the boardercross. We congratulate them both with their outstanding performances and wish them all the best for the future. Click the photo icon for some pictures.

http://www.beyondsnow.com/blog.php?id=188

I finally made it to Alaska. I have been here for 2 days now and it is snowing heavily, which is good in our case. The mountains look incredible and ready to shred. There are also some funny people here, who seem to like roller skates and guitars. When it stopped snowing it was finally time to go out and ride. The Alarm goes off at 5.30am...my first riding day A.K again. I woke up in the town of Haines and from my window I could see dark and think clouds, not a very promising sight. But I am optimistic. I get in the car and drive 33 miles to the heli base, during the drive over there, there were windows of blue skies, I am getting amped and ready. This is what riding big lines is all about, mixed emotions inside. Feeling amazed, but also feeling nervous during the drive. Then the heli starts and excitement rushes in. You fly up and you get an amazing view of spectacular ranges. Than when the heli dropped you of, fear starts kicking in as you stand on top of a huge mountain. You drop in...concentration...focus throughout the run ...and finally a big adrenaline rush at the bottom. I got in 7 runs with cliffs, spines and chutes. I did 2 mellow ones (on Alaskan terms) just to get the feeling back. But every run here is long and sick. It was great to get back the sense of being in the heli, and also re regain my confidence to ride big lines. I went snowboarding in a region called the sorcerers bowl, wizards wand and porkispines. Offcourse I didn’t went riding alone, my shred buddies are Brodie Cook (New Zealand), Daniel Kundernatsch (Austria) and David Schicht (Sweden). They all ride solid and strong, they are still buzzing from their first runs in Alaska. Tomorrow they expect bad weather but we will head out either way, looking for patches of blue sky and insane snow. As the people say here “Alaskan weather is a bit like Las Vegas, you have got to get lucky”. But it is great to be back. Click the photo icon to view some pictures. All pictures are courtesy of Daniel Kundernatsch.

I went to Canada for 12 days, it was my first visit to Canada and it was really great! First we went to Vancouver for a Worldcup halfpipe contest. Our boardbags arrived just in time for our first training. The halfpipe was really weird, but it turned out alright and it was a great experience! After Vancouver we went to Quebec for a Worldcup halfpipe and big air contest. I was looking forward to the big air! The riding in Quebec turned out to be great. My halfpipe run was ok but the level of riding was insane! Then the day of the big air finally arrived. It was a city big air so that is always cool! Lots of riders had some problems with the speed, some riders even didn’t want to compete. I had problems with the speed as well but during the qualifications it turned out ok. It was the first time I did a switch backside 7 on a city big air for me so I was really happy that I got to the finals! Due to less speed in the finals I wasn’t able to do a clean jump. After hitting some flats in the finals I ended up in 12th position, but after all I was happy and it was a cool time in Canada! Click the photo icon to see some pictures.

On the 21st there was a small 2 star TTR contest in Kühtai (Austria), our female rider Evelien Derde competed there and did well. A small contest like that was perfect to upgrade her skills and get used to competition stress. It was a small but fun park with all kinds of things to hit. The day of the contest it was snowing hard and the organization decided to make it into a rail contest instead of a slopestyle contest. But eventually they changed their mind, started shaping everything and then the game was on. It was hard to see everything clearly but everybody was excited. Evelien landed everything she wanted and eventually placed fifth. Congratulations to Evelien and we hope to hear more from her in the future.

But unlike the usual marathon with runners in tight outfits, it is full of snowboarders in baggy pants and wide shirts. We feel like we won the ISPO marathon this year, we had a great time and a lot of people visited our booth. Everybody was positive and our 0910 collection got people excited. Our little spot on the ISPO was perfect and with the black and blue theme it stood out from the other booths. It was the place to be for Belgian beer lovers or just for a nice chat in the most comfortable sofa of the entire trade show. we will definitely remember the big get together on Sunday when we closed the ISPO doors behind us and the nice, pleasant atmosphere we had on our booth.
